If you need to change your business or personal address, there are several steps we recommend you take to ensure your information is up to date.
Update your address in Heard
In the video tutorial below, Customer Engagement Specialist, Melissa Klepp walks through the process of updating your business or personal address in Heard.
Update business address
- Go to Your Practice>Profile.
- In the “Business” section on the top of the page, click on the pencil icon on the top right.
- In the “Business Address” section, enter your new address.
- Scroll down and click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.
Update personal address
- Go to Your Practice>Profile.
- Scroll down to the “Personal” section and click on the pencil icon at the top right.
- In the “Personal Address” section, enter your new address.
- Click the Save Changes button at the bottom of the page.
Update your address with IRS
There are two times you can change your business address with the IRS.
Update business address
- Annual return filing: If you change your address before filing your annual return, enter your new address on your return when you file. When your return is processed, the IRS will update your record to your new address. If you change your address after filing your annual return, you should notify the post office that services your old address. Because not all post offices forward government checks, you should also notify the IRS with one of the options listed below.

Any other time:
- Mail: To change your business mailing address, use Form 8822-B, Change of Address or Responsible Party — Business, if the EIN application is on file. You will then mail the completed to the address shown on the form.
- Phone: To update a business address by phone, please call 1-800-829-4933 from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Update personal address
- Annual return filing: If you change your address before filing your annual return, enter your new address on your return when you file. When your return is processed, the IRS will update your record to your new address. If you change your address after filing your annual return, you should notify the post office that services your old address. Because not all post offices forward government checks, you should also notify the IRS with one of the options listed below.

- Mail: To change your home address, use Form 8822 to report that change. Form 8822, Change of Address (For Individual, Gift, Estate, or Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax Returns) to report that change. You will then mail the completed to the address shown on the form.
- Phone: To change your personal address by phone, please call 1-800-829-1040 from Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Update your address with your state agency
To update your address with your state, log into the state account you use to pay your taxes, and under your profile, find the place for your address to update.

Payroll
This step is only required if you are running payroll through a payroll provider.
Gusto
If you process payroll with another payroll provider, please reach out to the provider directly for instructions on how to update your address.
If you run payroll, you will also need to update your address with the Department of Labor for your applicable states. Gusto has a useful article on How to contact a state agency or the IRS.
Please note: If you are a W-2 employee for another company, you may want to reach out to HR to update your address on file.
