Missed Heard's 2025 tax season deadline? If you opted in to file your 2025 taxes with Heard and missed both the original and extended deadlines, you can still file from the Tax Return Archive.
Filing as soon as possible helps in two ways:
- It limits penalties and interest. Both continue to add up for as long as your 2025 return is unfiled.
- It keeps you on track for 2026. Your 2025 return must be filed before you can file your 2026 return.
Before you start
Finishing your 2025 return through the Tax Return Archive is available if:
- You joined Heard by March 1, 2026 (S corporations) or April 1, 2026 (sole proprietors)
- Your Heard plan includes tax preparation and filing
- You opted in to tax filing with Heard
- Your Heard account is active
If you meet these requirements but don't see the Complete your 2025 tax questionnaire button in your Tax Return Archive, contact Support through Messages.
Filing your 2025 return
- In Heard, go to Taxes › Tax Return Archive.
- Expand 2025 Tax Returns.
- Click Complete your 2025 tax questionnaire
- Answer the questions and submit.
Complete the questionnaire to the best of your knowledge. We'll connect you to a tax preparer once your 2025 books are finalized, and your preparer will follow up with you in chat about anything else they need.
2025 tax documents you've already uploaded to Heard go to your preparer automatically. To add more, go to Documents › Taxes and select 2025.
What happens next
Once your 2025 books are finalized, a tax preparer picks up your return within the day. When you're paired, click View Chat on your return to message your preparer. They'll send you a form to sign, giving them permission to e-file for you.
If your books aren't finalized yet, we'll save your answers until they are. Reach out to Support through Messages, and we'll connect you with your bookkeeper, who typically finalizes your books within 3 business days of receiving your documents. See Year End documents for what they may ask for.
Already working with a preparer? Click View Chat on your return in 2025 Tax Returns.
Filing as an S corporation? Your business return (Form 1120-S) is filed first. Your personal return (Form 1040) shows Upcoming until then, and moves to a preparer automatically.

FAQs
I started my Tax Questionnaire before the tax season closed. Do my answers carry over?
No, so you'll answer the questions again in the Tax Return Archive. Any documents you uploaded still go to your tax preparer once you submit.
