Overview
This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to pay quarterly estimated tax for New York state. There are two ways to pay quarterly tax estimates: login in or creating an account or making a payment without an account.
Log in or create an account
In order to pay quarterly estimated tax to the state of New York, you will need to first log in to your NY Online account.
- Go to: https://www.tax.ny.gov/
- Scroll down to the section entitled "Popular Services," then click on Make a payment.
- Scroll down to “Payment Options” and click Pay Personal Income Tax.
- Next, you will need to log in to make a payment. Click Login to Pay at the bottom of the page.
- If you do not have an account, you will need to create one. To do so, scroll down to “Individual account” and click on Create individual account.
Make an Online Payment
Once you are logged in to your account, you can make a payment. which will bring you to your Account Summary page.
- Open the services menu in the upper left. Under Services, select Payments, bills and Notices, then click Make a Payment.
- On the Make a Different Payment screen, "Select payment type" from the "I want to:" drop-down menu.
- Pay estimated tax: make quarterly prepayments toward the taxes you expect to owe for the tax year.
- Pay my return: make a payment toward an amount you indicated you would owe on your return.
- Pay my extension: make a payment toward an amount you indicated you would owe with your extension.
- From the Make a Different Payment screen, "Select payment type" from the "I want to:" drop-down menu, select Pay estimated tax, and click Continue.
- On the Estimated tax payment page, enter "Filing Details"
- Quarter: select the quarter you are making a payment towards
- New York State ($): enter your estimated tax amount
- City of New York ($): if applicable, enter your estimated tax amount
- City of Yonkers ($): if applicable, enter your estimated tax amount

MCTMT ($): if applicable, enter your estimated tax amount
- Click Calculate. The Estimated tax payment page will reload with the total Payment Amount
- Click Continue
- Choose your payment method:
- Pay from Bank Account (no fee)
- Pay by Card (convenience fee applies)
- To complete your payment, enter your bank or credit card details
- Review your "Payment Summary" and click Continue
- In the "Review and Verify" page, to make changes, select Edit. If no changes are needed, click Submit.
- On the Transaction Confirmation page, click Print for your records.

As a reminder, Heard cannot submit quarterly estimated tax for you, and you are responsible for paying it in a timely manner. We recommend saving any payment confirmations and checking your state's payment portal after submitting the payment to ensure it is reflected in your account. Please mark the quarterly tax payment as paid in Heard and upload a copy of your receipt.
