I received my quarterly estimates from Heard. How can I pay my federal quarterly taxes online?
For many taxpayers, the easiest way to submit what you owe through quarterly taxes is to pay your taxes electronically. You can submit your federal quarterly payment in a variety of ways, but for ease of use, we recommend paying online through the IRS website.
To pay your quarterly tax payment, head over to the IRS’ payment portal. Under the header “Pay Your Taxes Now”, you will see two options to use Direct Pay (and pay directly from your bank account) or to pay using a debit or credit card.
Please note: You should pay your taxes from a personal bank account or card as opposed to out of business accounts.
As a reminder, these are individual or personal tax payments. When paying through any of these portals, it is important to ensure that you choose your payment category as a personal/individual tax payment.
Paying by Bank Account
Click on the blue “Bank Account (Direct Pay)” button under “Pay Your Taxes Now”.
You will be redirected to a secure portal and prompted to answer several questions to confirm your tax information and identity. On the first page of the portal, be sure to note your Reason for Payment as “Estimated Tax”.
This will automatically apply your payment to the 1040ES form, which is the standard IRS form for estimated tax payments, and the 2023 tax year. When prompted, you will then answer several questions confirming your identity, banking information, and amount owed in order to submit the payment.
Please note that Direct Pay is available at the following times:
- Monday through Saturday (Midnight to 11:45pm Eastern Time)
- Sunday (7am to 11:45pm Eastern Time)
Once you have paid an estimated payment, please save any confirmation number or proof of payment for your records.
Paying by Credit Card
If you wish to pay by credit or debit card, please note that you may be subject to processing fees. On the IRS’ payment portal, click on the blue “Debit Card or Credit Card” button under “Pay Your Taxes Now”.
You will be redirected to a list of payment processors that allow you to pay your taxes by card. The authorized IRS payment processing partners are Pay USA Tax, Pay1040, and ACI Payments, Inc., and you can learn more about each partner’s processing fees directly through the IRS.
As a reminder, these are individual or personal tax payments. When paying through any of these portals, it is important to ensure that you choose your payment category as a personal/individual tax payment, and if asked, the 1040-ES, which is the standard IRS form for estimated tax, for the 2022 tax year. When prompted, you will need to confirm and provide identity verification as well as your credit or debit card information in order to submit your payment.
Once you have paid an estimated payment, please save any confirmation number or proof of payment for your records.
Other Ways to Pay
You may also pay through the IRS2Go Mobile App, which allows you to make payments, receive tax tips, and check your refund status on annual returns.
If desired, you may also pay via check or money order or with cash.
