What is the tax season kickoff survey?
At Heard, we begin with the Tax Season Kickoff survey to gather information about your unique tax filing needs. In this survey, we'll ask you a few questions to confirm your tax entity type, your 1099-NEC filing requirements, and your specific filing needs for the 2025 tax year. To access the survey, go to Taxes>Annual.
1. Tax entity
First, you’ll need to confirm your tax entity. If your tax entity changed in 2025 and it is not yet reflected in Heard, please let us know here. This is an important step to ensure you file the correct tax forms for your entity.
You’re a sole proprietor if:
- You haven’t formally registered your business as a separate legal entity
- You file your business income and expenses on your personal tax return
You’re an S Corp if:
- You’ve submitted a Form 2553, and it has been accepted by the IRS/state.
- You’ve received a Form CP261
- You’ve filed a 1120-S tax return
If you are Unsure, please select None of the above, or I need help.
If you need to request a copy of the IRS notice confirming your S Corporation, please see How to Request S Corp Verification Letter 385C
